Description

We are looking for a talented Purchasing Manager to join our team specializing in hydrogen power systems technology for our # NewPower Business Unit in Mississauga, Ontario.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

As the VPI Purchasing Manager for Fuel Cell, you will lead the end to end purchasing activities for VPI (Value Package Introduction)/ NPI (New Product Introduction) projects within fuel cell system. Collaboration with stakeholders in multiple sites including Canada, USA, and Europe. Leads the overall coordination of complex technical development and commercial activities and is accountable for the project management of supplier technical risk and quality in the early product development. Integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders towards supplier product development.

The key responsibilities specific to this position include:

  • Responsible for Value Package Introduction (VPI) Purchasing deliverables that meet the needs of customer and business.

  • Responsible for ensuring on-time part delivery, part quality, and cost reduction for production and product development for all responsible VPI programs.

  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, finance, and program teams to meet the business/program needs. Work with the Sourcing teams on supplier selection and ensure early supplier integration.

  • End to End Purchasing program management for responsible VPI programs including a combination of tactical work like issuing Purchase Orders (PO), new supplier set up & supplier follow ups and strategic purchasing activities as it relates to the programs assigned.

  • Actively influences the design and project risk trade-offs that impact project cost or supplier early engagement without sacrifice of quality expectations.

  • Provides leadership to complex supplier relationships through supplier agreements required to protect intellectual properties.

  • May coordinate and direct work of technical purchasing teams.

  • Coaches and mentors across a global business unit or corporate area.

  • Obtains input and negotiates with project leadership, suppliers, customer teams, product engineers, or technology teams to ensure the delivery of robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.

  • Supports all Supplier Early Engagement work and new technology development.

  • Engages with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers and technologies and connects engineering with the appropriate sourcing team.

  • For defined projects, serve as the purchasing team member and meet the required purchasing deliverables. Where a project includes a deliverable of a demonstration product, support the procurement cycle.

  • Prepare and deliver information for management and functional reviews.

  • Use Should Cost tools to develop piece price targets for components and product material cost targets.

  • High intensity and high pace work in a growth business like environment.

  • Expected to work from Mississauga site office at least 3 days a week.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • University Degree or equivalent qualifications would be preferred. Engineering degree is a plus.

  • Experience with expediting parts & experience as a buyer in a plant environment is a plus.

  • Proven experience in a rigorous and detail-oriented environment in manufacturing.

  • Significant level of relevant work experience required
