Product Engineering Leader

Description

We are looking for a talentedProduct Engineering Leader to join our team #NewPower Business Unit in Mississauga, Ontario.

.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Obtains input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.

  • Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of technology integration, design, analysis and experimental test verification and validation for both new and current products that impact product form, functionality and overall project risk trade-offs.

  • Creates, manages, improves and applies processes such Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) and tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklist and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

  • Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.

  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

  • Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.

  • Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

  • Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.

  • May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.

  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.

  • Participates in design and development ofnovel fuel cell and hybrid systems architectures, primarily related to railapplications – ensures customer and product requirements are met; performs in alead systems engineering role.

  • Develops and manages (throughcross-functional teams) design documentation for rail fuel cell products in ateam environment (electrical and electronics schematics, P&ID diagrams,test reports, bills of material, technical specifications, etc.).

  • Responsible for applying lab/fieldlearnings to product design/engineering, based on participation in systemtesting/validation, and through working with cross-functional teams.

  • Participates as a “hands-on” member of across-functional product team, by developing product design and test strategieswhich take into account: cost reduction targets, testing and evaluationprocesses for new components and the end product, production and manufacturingprocesses, safety and quality control, service and support.

  • Performs validation of newelectro-mechanical components and subsystems as part of continuous improvementprocess. Provide Systems engineering support to product under test, product in the field, and product under development

  • Supports systems and subcomponent level troubleshooting and design.

  • Supports root cause analysis at the systems andsubcomponent level.

  • Supports software validation by working withcontrols team.

  • Supports management of technical validationplanning by working with validation teams.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical,Mechatronics, Systems Design or Engineering Science).

  • Graduate Degree (Master’s) in Engineering is anasset.

  • Strong multidisciplinary engineering background(experience with systems design – integrating electrical, mechanical,electronic, controls subsystems).

  • Training in fundamental mechanical principlessuch as thermodynamics, shock and vibration, design principles as well aselectrical/electronic principles – controls, electrical fundamentals.
